Mr Ping’s Chinese restaurant review, Thorpe Bay, Essex

Mr Ping's starter selection
Mr Ping’s starter selection

We have been to Mr Ping’s in Thorpe Bay, Essex many times now and always ask for no MSG and they are happy to omit it. Service is attentive and the atmosphere is comfortable and modern. This particular evening we had scallops to start which were fabulous (black bean and ginger and spring onion sauces) but the bang bang chicken was covered in sugar and not quite what we expected. Plain rice was perfect. We have cod in ginger and spring onion and ask for it without batter, which is delicious and healthy. The Kung Po King Prawns we ask to have ‘with batter’ as it tastes better. The vegetables are always good.

We have had the mixed starter platter before and it’s great value – seaweed, spare ribs, spring rolls, sataychicken and prawn and sesame toasts – all very tasty.

We are sure that whatever you have here will be good and this is a great choice for the Southend area.  You can usually park outside – although there is not a car park.
