Benfleet Indian is hot in the press!

Maharaja, in London Road, Benfleet was up against 10,000 other Asian restaurants from across the UK to make it into the final cook-off’ competition, the Tiffin Cup, which took place in the House of Commons’ kitchens this week. It was set up to find the Country’s best Asian cuisine and to recognise the outstanding contribution Asian restaurants have made to the British economy.

A panel of celebrity TV chefs, chaired by Ainsley Harriott, Sanjay Anand, from Madhus, and Anuirudh Arora, from the world famous Oberoi Hotel Udaivilas, in India, tasted items from each finalist’s menu.

Maharaja came in behind the winning Bekash restaurant, in Romford, and Queen’s Spice, in Wales, which was second.

Castle Point MP Bob Spink, who nominated the Benfleet restaurant, said: “I am so proud to have such wonderful restaurants in south Essex.”

Delighted Siraj Ali, owner of the Maharaja, said: “It is fantastic news not just for us, but for Essex, as we always make sure we provide the best for our customers.”
