Angie Best

1. Angie Best (Southend on Sea)
Angie Best (born Angela MacDonald-James in 1953 in Southend-on-Sea, Essex), is a former Playboy Bunny and model, but also famous for being the ex-wife of footballer George Best.
Born in Southend-on-Sea, Angie became a model, and then Bunny hostess at the Playboy club in London. She then went to New York to model, before moving on to Los Angeles as a model and personal trainer.

It was love at first sight when she met George Best at a dinner party in Los Angeles in 1975 when he was signing to play for the Los Angeles Aztecs. S he moved back to London in 1976 with George, but his drinking and womanising were getting out of control. Angie went back to Los Angeles, but George followed and persuaded her to marry him on 24 January 1978. George was drunk at the wedding ceremony and spent the wedding night drinking and gambling. They had one son, Calum, in 1981, but George’s continual drinking and affairs eventually split them up, and Angie returned to Los Angeles with Calum to be away from George for the good of her son. The couple divorced via an annulment in 1986.
In the early 80s, shortly after her very public split-up, Angie went back full-time to her fitness career, training celebrities such as Cher, Sharon Stone and Daryl Hannah. She also produced her own workout videos and appeared in television shows in a series of specials for Europe’s SKY Television, British Telecom’s Lifestyle channel, and Europa Cable Television. She has since written a series of books for over 40’s women, including “A Change For the Best” which focuses on the menopause. She also wrote her her autobiography “George and Me: My Autobiography”, the hook line for which was: “I didn’t realise that six years of marriage would last a lifetime.”
Although George put her through a lot, Angie admitted: “I remain good friends with George. He is the only man I ever loved.”George Best died in November 2005, Angie was the only woman at his graveside – she attended with a single red rose.
Today, Angie lives in the Malibu Hills where she rides, writes, and cares for her animals. Angie also trains her select clients while working on a TV project, her jewelry line, and answering the 100s of letters and e-mail she receives from her “girls”.
